281.2 – Day 2
This morning’s training consisted of the strength training below followed by a maintenance run around Brookwood area of Buckhead. I took two FRS blocks, 2 s-caps for the heat outside, and a gel shot before we started our workouts.
We warmed up with three rounds of:
- 10 Jumping Jacks
- 10 Bench Press
Followed by a 1 minute plank and capped off with 5 Rounds Of:
- 10 Squats
- 25 V-ups
- 10 Leg Press
- 25 V-ups
- 10 Bicep Curls
We then split up for our runs. I ran by my friend’s Praful and Catherine’s houses and wished I had brought eggs or toilet paper to decorate them. Next time. My goal was 5.1 miles in about 40 minutes but I ended up doing 5.58 in 45 minutes. Both longer and slower than I expected. the heat, hills and humidity really do a number on my pace. I am very much a cold weather runner, excelling in temperatures between 45 and 65 degrees. I felt it in my muscles during this run, a lot of that fatigue due to the strength training before. I recommend giving yourself a 10-20 minute break between strength training when possible. I drank a protein shake immediately after my run to make sure I gave my muscles some help in recovery. That run put me at about 11% of my run goal of 52.4 miles, which seems fantastic but is an easy trap to fall into. This month is a marathon and not a sprint, so I have to be patient and methodical.
The afternoon consisted of a .6 mile swim that I completed at LA Fitness Smyrna. Heading into the swim I was certainly feeling the effects of the day. Sore hip, headache, general fatigue and a craving to rather go drinking. Some supportive comments to my original blog post gave me the motivation to push through. I focused on limiting my kick and using mostly my arms to build back up my swim endurance. I wrapped the night up with wine, water with L-Glutamine, and Ibuprofen. It’s off to swim again tomorrow morning and then the long run and cycling sessions over the weekend. Below is a picture of the pool in the early afternoon. Note to all, the best time to go to LA Fitness to swim is in the very early morning before all the weirdos get there.
