We decided to participate in Dry January and added on a Vegetarian (not Vegan) only diet for the start of the year. Another idea we discussed was also cutting out coffee, but two changes were more than enough. We did, however, try to cut the caffeine down to one cup a day and no sooner than 1.5 hours after waking up. But like I said earlier, crash changes are not sustainable or successful. So we planned some approaches around how to stick to and get the most out of these experiments.
This week Angela and I celebrated our 10th Anniversary since we started dating. A decade is such a great length of time to gauge the progress in life. In the decade we have been together we have seen, accomplished, grown and overcome so much. Sometimes it feels like a lifetime, others one chapter of a big book. I still find it hard to believe all that we have done in one decade. Countries visited, wedding attended, trips taken, places lived. etc. I hope we can make ourselves proud and do even more in the next decade.
The Corporate Purge: One challenge we took on is to purge every corporate feed, email and page from our social media and email accounts. I believe what’s left is less noise and more clarity. We’ve also cut down on TV and it is leaving more time for preparation in all activities. My focus has improved and my appetite for reading has gone up. I would challenge everyone to do a Big Corporate Cleanse in their own lives as well. I am over being sold and giving my money to the wrong people. I want my money to have local and longer reaching impact.
A big thank you to everyone who donated to my #Movember campaign.I was able to raise over $4oo individually and my company team raised over $5,000 collectively. Charitable giving is very big to me so I am really grateful for those who stepped up and showed their support. I setting a big donation target of 5-10% of our base salaries next year to various causes. Especially the causes that the far right dislikes. In this new political culture, we have to come together to support each other more because I believe a new wave of greed and selfishness is on the way.
A big thank you to everyone who has donated to my Movember page already. Angela, Jessica, Toyin, Eréndira, Nick and others. If you have not already you can still donate to my #Movember efforts and help me change the face of men’s health. http://mobro.co/rbakare
New York is truest embodiment of a cultural melting pot. Life for me is all about experience and diversity. I wish everywhere had a little New York in it. A little soul, a little rush, a little conflict and a little chill. Half of America rejects progress and diversity. I know they will lose, progress demands it and history shows we ultimately want to explore and intermingle.
