October Fitness Challenge for Challenged Athletes Foundation
This October I challenge all of you to Join Strava.com (more on Strava here) and ride and/or run as many miles as you can to raise money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). Every GPS tracked kilometer you record from October 5th through October 26th will result in a contribution from GU Energy to CAF. You can join the running specific group here or the cycling group here; or hell, both.
The CAF mission is to provide opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. CAF believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life.
One of the lives made better by CAF’s mission include super kids like Cody McCasland. Cody was born with “sacral agenesis,” which results in missing tibias. His legs were amputated through the knee when he was just 15 months old. CAF has assisted Cody and his family with advanced prosthetics and gait coaching. Since then, Cody has been a force participating in every track and swim event they have time for. You can check out more on Cody in this great video here.
Cody’s story is made possible by CAF striving to use 80 cents or more of every dollar raised to provide opportunities to NOT ONLY SUPPORT athletes with physcal disabilties, but also further enhances the quality of their lives. CAF also has a perfect 4 star Accountability & Transparency ranking on Charity Navigator.
