Week by Week – W09Y2017
This weekend marked the 25 year anniversary of my dad passing away. It has been a very eventful 25 years filled with every imaginable turn. Though I wish I could have had him there with us along the way I feel like he has been there and I hope I am making him proud. He was without a doubt the most important thing in my life up until he died. He has remained influential by being an example I hope to replicate and reminding me how short life is and why we should push beyond our comfort zones. We never know how much time we have. May you all climb mountains, see new lands, and engage with the most interesting people. Life is too short for all the other BS.
“If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” — Jim Rohn
That quote was something I first saw on a classmates dorm room door in college. That same fellow alum is now a professor at Furman University. I get to present this alum with an award at Alumni weekend this year and I could not be more proud. I have tried to lie by this quote since I first saw it. Life is full of adversity, just keep looking for a way around the obstacle. I got in some great progress on multiple fronts this week. I was approved to be a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I am waiting to meet my potential new Little Brother. I am very grateful to those who recommended me. I hope I can be a positive influence in the young man’s life. Worked with fellow alumni to ideate through many Oglethorpe initiatives and plans for next year.
This was kind of lazy week. I worked out a lot but didn’t get much out of it. Was feeling generally fatigued because of some old foot wear causing going pain. So, I retired my old Nike Air Pegasus shoes and switched to the On CloudFlow shoes. I went for my first run of the year with LuLu. Signed up for my next race, Shamrock ‘N Roll Road Race 10K. I finished 3rd in Age Group while running with LuLu in this race last year. I am hoping to beat that performance.
Family is everything. While out having a celebratory dinner with family we bumped into Arthur Blank doing the same with his family. We don’t get to pick them and don’t always agree with them, but if they are there for you; love and accept them. Help build them up and in doing so you will lift all boats. None of us come with an instruction manual and neither does life, so be understanding of how others try to make their way through this life.
One of the busiest weeks of the year yet. With patience, 2017 could be alright.
